Flinders Tops NAPLAN 2024 in Region

Students at Matthew Flinders Anglican College have achieved the highest NAPLAN results on the Sunshine Coast averaged across Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 and across all five domains.

In particular, Flinders’ Year 3 students achieved “well above” the national standard in Grammar and “above” in Year 3 Reading and Numeracy, Year 5 Grammar and Year 7 Writing.

The NAPLAN provides an important national measure of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 on their fundamental literacy and numeracy skills in the domains of Reading, Writing, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar, and Numeracy.

Flinders students consistently attain high levels of literacy and numeracy in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN).

The College Principal, Ms Michelle Carroll, said, “We recognise that NAPLAN is a point-in-time test, however, it is rewarding to have our students at Flinders consistently attain high levels of literacy and numeracy in this national measure."

"Across our Primary and Secondary Schools, we stand by the high quality of our educational programs and teaching practices focused on students' deep learning, engagement and wellbeing," Ms Carroll said.

“We use NAPLAN and other national assessment data to constantly review, refine and innovate our curriculum programs, and further develop our staff expertise."

Flinders’ new state-of-the-art Infinity Centre, which opened in 2024 as part of the Flinders Masterplan, is a key facility supporting the College’s approach to curriculum programs exploring the power of design thinking, entrepreneurship and innovation.

The College recently celebrated its Year 12 Class of 2024 achieving outstanding ATAR results, placing half of the cohort in the top 10% of the State. There were four students to achieve an ATAR of 99 and above, including one student who achieved the highest possible 99.95 ATAR, one of only 36 in Queensland.

The College was also honoured to be recognised, for the third year in a row, as a 5-Star Innovative School for 2024 by The Educator magazine, one of only 41 schools across Australia to be named.
